Back to Guate

9 Aug

Time to relax and plan Roberto’s birthday. We hired a private van for $30 through the company Guatamaya Tours to pick us up at the Posada and take us to the Barceló in Guate. The best driver we have had on our trip. We are staying at the Barceló until we depart on Aug. 12th.

Before we left Antigua we went to the market and bought a present for Roberto. Stopped at the chocolate museum, they offer a chocolate making course, that we wanted to take but didn’t have time. Then we went on a Segway tour in a coffee plantation. Super cool!!

I love Antigua!!

Heading back to Antigua

8 Aug

We took a luxury bus back to Antigua. It was a double decker bus, we had first class seats. So comfortable, reclining with tablet and access to videos. 6 hour trip made bearable.

Departure for Puerto Barrios, Guatemala

5 Aug

Up at 7am and off to our favourite Copán café for breakfast. We have hired a private driver and van to take us all the way to Puerto Barrios, Guatemala with a stop near Rio Hondo at the hotel El Dorado because they have water slides. It will be at least a 6 hour trip including the boarder and the 1 hour water slide break. West is really excited about the water slides.

Our driver Hector was nice in the beginning and then he got grumpier as the trip went on. His driving got worse and worse. He was driving very fast and passing on curves and with traffic coming at us. I was scared and very nervous we were going to get into an accident. When we arrived in the area with the water slide he made like he didn’t know the place and wanted to stop at another hotel that just had a pool. We eventually understood each other and found El Dorado, unfortunately all the water slides weren’t open. But we had a lot of fun anyway and it was a nice break in the long trip.

insert pic here…

When we got to the resort Amatique Bay, Hector was still grumpy about the long drive, we decided not to give him a tip because he was such a terrible driver…

The resort is nice, colonial style with water slides, Spanish galleon, and several pools.  It’s super HOT and HUMID here.  There is a real Caribbean feel to the place.
